Marine-i latest projects

Since the launch of the second phase of the Marine-i project in Spring 2020, the Marine-i team has been working closely with businesses in Cornwall on a number of exciting innovation projects.

Marine-i is currently working with a wide range of SMEs, helping them to maximise the value of their RD&I and thereby accelerate the commercialisation of their new products and services.

Here are some of the pioneering projects with which our team is now actively engaged:

Solis Marine

Feasibility study to understand the benefits for tidal stream turbines of hydraulic system controls and power to shore. 

Falmouth Harbour Commissioners

An analysis of innovative mooring and anchoring concept to reduce cost and installation time for large vessel mooring systems.

Community Energy Plus and Cornwall Offshore Renewable Energy Ventures

Supporting local community energy projects to access tidal turbine solutions.

Trivane

Advice and guidance to develop an innovative low draught catamaran barge floating wind platform and turbine.

Feritech Global

Testing in an artificial seabed of a novel geophysical data collection tool.

Tugdock

Development of a submersible dock for the floating wind sector.

Acadmy

An application to predict rip currents and tidal surges to assist beach safety.

Morek Engineering

A novel means to improve the connection/disconnection of equipment on the decks of ships.

Falco Drone Technologies

Advice and guidance on how drones can support wind turbine maintenance, which will include testing a prototype at a real offshore wind turbine.

Submarine Technology Limited (STL)

Development of a robotic arm for the launching and recovery of autonomous vessels by larger vessels.

Perpetual Research Consultancy

Support for the development of a potential game changing technology to enable wireless charging of surface and subsurface autonomous vessels.

Cleaner Seas Group

Testing a prototype washing machine filter designed to reduce marine plastics pollution.

Supernaturehuman

Investigation into large scale farms for growing seaweed for food.

J-supplied 3D

A study to understand how to use 3D printing to produce very large structures.

Wave Venture

Support to develop a system that will use wave power to provide clean water for humanitarian operations and disaster relief.
